While a patent is in the pending application stage, no renewal fees are due. Once a patent is granted in Israel, you are obliged to pay a recurring renewal fee to the Patent Office of Israel to maintain the patent. The first renewal fee for Years 1 to 6 is due within three months from the grant of the patent and you will have to settle the fees before the expiration of the three months.The second renewal fee will be due on the sixth anniversary (Year 7) of the patent’s international filing date. Thereafter, one will have to pay renewal fees at the beginning of the 10th (Year 11), 14th (Year 15) and 18th (Year 19) anniversary of the international filing date. The renewal due date for all renewals falls on the anniversary of the filing date.
For example: if the filing date of a patent is 2015-07-27, and the grant date of the patent is 2019-10-01, you will only have to settle the first renewal fee for Years 1 to 6 within three months from the grant of patent until 2020-01-01. The second renewal fee will be due on 2021-07-27 (from the anniversary of the filing date).
In the event that the patent was granted after 6 years from the date of filing, you will have to settle pending previous renewal fees within three months from the grant of the patent. The renewal due date for all subsequent renewals will fall on the anniversary of the filing date.
For example: if the filing date of a patent is 2015-07-27 with the sixth anniversary on 2021-07-27, and the grant date of the patent is 2021-10-01, you will have to settle the first and second renewal fee from Years 1 to 10 within three months from the grant of the patent until 2021-01-01. The next annuity will be due renewal on 2018-06-01 (from the anniversary of the filing date).

Intellectual Property Type #1 - Designs in Israel
A design right in Israel is valid for 25 years, from the filing date. The first renewal fee is due before the 5th year from the filing date upon the grant of the registration of the design. The renewal fees of a design right are due after the fifth, tenth, fifteenth and twentieth year. Initially, a registered design is protected for 5 years. In order to maintain the protection beyond the initial 5 year period, one will have to pay renewal fees at the beginning of the 6th year in order to extend the protection term of a further 5 years.
The first renewal fee for Years 1 to 6 is due within three months from the grant of the patent. Thereafter, the renewal fees are paid at the beginning of the 6th (Year 7), 10th (Year 11), 14th (Year 15) and 18th (Year 19) anniversary of the international filing date. The first renewal fee is paid after the Patent Office has granted the patent in Israel. The first renewal of a granted patent is due within three months from the grant of the patent. The renewal fee is intended to maintain the patent in force for the upcoming 7th year.

Prior to a patent being granted in Israel, it falls into what is known as the filing stage. A patent in Israel is typically granted between three to four years from the filing date. You will only start paying renewal fees in Israel when the patent becomes granted.
The payment window opens a month before the renewal fees are due. No renewal fees can be settled prior to this window opening.
There is a 6-month grace period given, whereby the renewal fees can still be settled. When entering this grace period, you will incur a penalty fee in addition to that of the initial annual fee for the corresponding year. The penalty fee for late payment is 201 ILS within 1 month of the grace period and increases by +201 ILS for each succeeding month. The penalty fee for the late payment for the sixth month is therefore 1206 ILS. Failure to settle this fee during the grace period will lead to the patent being expired.
You can either appoint a registered patent attorney in Israel. Alternatively, the fees can be paid online, and a copy of the payment receipt should be sent to the Israeli Patent Office.
In order to maintain a patent in Israel, renewal fees need to be settled with the Israeli Patent Office. By settling the renewal fees, the patent is guaranteed to last for a maximum of 20 years from the filing date. If you want to maintain the patent, the renewal fees are mandatory, if not paid the patent will lapse.
