Trademark renewal fees in Argentina: costs, due dates and grace period
Renewing an Argentine trademark costs 200 UMAPI per registration, paid to the Instituto Nacional de la Propiedad Industrial (INPI). Each registration covers one class, so this is effectively a per-class fee. The term is 10 years from the grant date. You can renew from six months before expiry, or within six months after it for a further 200 UMAPI.
What are the trademark renewal due dates in Argentina?
An Argentine registration lasts 10 years from its grant date, shown on the registration certificate. Renewal can be filed from six months before expiry.
The first renewal falls due 10 years from the grant date. INPI accepts it from six months before expiry, online only. For marks granted from 12 January 2013, the mid-term declaration of use must already be on file.
For example, if the grant date is 2016-03-11, the renewal window opens on 2025-09-11 and the deadline is 2026-03-11.
Each renewal adds 10 years and includes a sworn declaration that the mark was used in the five years before expiry, in at least one class or as a business designation. There is no limit on the number of renewals.
For example, once renewed in 2026, the next renewal is due by 2036-03-11.
Argentine trademarks are renewed online with the Instituto Nacional de la Propiedad Industrial (INPI), under Trademark Law 22,362.
Argentina is not a member of the Madrid System, so no international registration can cover it. Every Argentine registration is renewed directly with INPI, and a foreign owner must set a legal domicile in Argentina.
File the mid-term declaration of use between 11 Mar 2021 and 11 Mar 2022. Renewal opens 11 Sep 2025 and is due by 11 Mar 2026. Until 11 Sep 2026 it can still be filed for a further 200 UMAPI.
Official trademark renewal fees by year in Argentina
Official INPI fees, set in UMAPI and paid in Argentine pesos (ARS). INPI indexes the UMAPI monthly to consumer prices, so the peso amount changes each month while the UMAPI amount stays the same.
| Fee type | Official fee (UMAPI) |
|---|---|
| Renewal, per registration (one class) | 200 |
| Grace-period fee, on top of the renewal | +200 |
| Mid-term declaration of use (DJUM) | 44 |
| Late DJUM, for each year late | +22 |
| Renewal in the grace period, total | 400 |
Argentina requires two separate declarations of use. The mid-term sworn declaration of use (declaración jurada de uso de medio término, DJUM) covers the first five years and is filed between the fifth and sixth anniversary of the grant, for marks granted from 12 January 2013. The declaración jurada de uso made with each renewal covers the five years before expiry and is completed inside the renewal form.

Missed a trademark renewal deadline in Argentina?
Renewal is still possible for six months after expiry. INPI then charges a grace-period fee of 200 UMAPI on top of the 200 UMAPI renewal fee, 400 UMAPI in total. After those six months INPI publishes no restoration route, and the registration lapses.
If the deadline of 11 Mar 2026 is missed, the renewal can still be filed until 11 Sep 2026, paying 400 UMAPI in total.

1. When is an Argentine trademark renewal due?
10 years from the grant date. INPI accepts the renewal from six months before expiry, and for six months after it with an extra 200 UMAPI.
2. What does a late Argentine renewal cost?
Within six months after expiry, the 200 UMAPI renewal fee plus a 200 UMAPI grace-period fee, 400 UMAPI in total. After that INPI publishes no restoration route.
3. How long does an Argentine trademark last?
10 years from the grant date, renewable for further 10-year periods with no limit, provided the mark has been used.
4. Does INPI require proof of use to renew?
Yes, as a sworn declaration rather than evidence. The renewal must state that the mark was used in the five years before expiry, in at least one class or as a business designation. A registration can also be cancelled if the mark has not been used for five years.
5. What is the mid-term declaration of use (DJUM)?
For marks granted from 12 January 2013, the owner must file a sworn declaration of use between the fifth and sixth anniversary of the grant, at 44 UMAPI, plus 22 UMAPI for each year it is late. If the DJUM is not on file when the renewal is filed, INPI does not process the renewal and can declare it lapsed after notifying the owner.
