Questions about the MCP connector?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that connects AI assistants to external data and tools. Anthropic introduced it in November 2024.
The PatentRenewal.com MCP server uses this standard to connect your AI assistant to your PatentRenewal.com portfolio. You ask questions in plain language, and the assistant uses the server’s tools to look up cases, renewals, fees and instruction history for you.
Tools that read your data work for anyone with view rights on the portfolio. Tools that add or change data need edit rights.
Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and other compatible MCP clients.
To connect, you add the server address, https://mcp.patentrenewal.com/mcp, to your AI assistant and sign in with your PatentRenewal.com account. The connector works inside the assistant you already use, so there’s no need to switch AI providers or use a separate tool for renewals.
Not for the MCP connector. Setting it up takes four steps: create a PatentRenewal.com account, add the server address to your AI assistant, sign in, and start asking questions.
API integrations do require development work. The API is for connecting renewal deadlines, costs, case statuses and instructions to your IP management software, docketing system or internal tools, and a developer builds that integration.
Yes, your data is secure. Access uses your existing PatentRenewal.com permissions, so your assistant can only see information your account is authorized to see.
You sign in directly through PatentRenewal.com, not inside your AI assistant, using the standard OAuth 2.0 flow like other hosted MCP servers. Until you sign in, the only tools your assistant can see are the two sign-in tools.
All traffic is encrypted, both from your AI assistant to the MCP server and from the MCP server to our API. Renewal instructions and changes remain recorded in the platform.
Yes. We support patents, trademarks, designs and utility models, and the MCP covers all four.
Through the MCP today you can look up any case by its reference, list the cases for a company or cost center, and see upcoming renewals with their deadlines, fees and payment status. With edit rights, you can also add new cases and update case information.
Yes, if your account has edit rights. Through your assistant you can submit an instruction to renew, cancel, hold or mark a case as client-managed, with a reason code, and review the history of renewal decisions on each case.
You can still set instructions in the PatentRenewal.com platform as usual, and the API supports read and write operations too.
MCP access is currently free for our customers. You sign in with your PatentRenewal.com account and enjoy using it.
