In Turkey, trademarks are renewed through the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT), which operates under the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Renewal is required to keep a Turkish trademark registration active.
Turkish trademark practice is governed by Industrial Property Law No. 6769, in force since 2017. The law consolidated Turkey’s trademark, patent, design and geographical indication rules into a single instrument and brought them closer to EU standards.
Turkey is a member of the Madrid Protocol. If your trademark is an International Registration designating Turkey, the renewal of that international registration is handled through WIPO Madrid System procedures rather than directly through TURKPATENT.
Trademark protection in Turkey is granted for a fixed term starting from the application date, and each renewal extends protection for another term. Under current rules, the term is 10 years. On renewal, the new period runs from the expiry date of the previous period rather than from the date of the renewal request.
Renewal must be filed within the 6 months before the expiry date, and the renewal fee has to be paid at the same time as the request. Turkey also allows a late renewal period of up to 6 months after expiry, at a substantially higher fee. If you do not renew within this grace period, the registration lapses.
For example, if the application date of a Turkish trademark is 2015-04-20:
The initial term ends on 2025-04-20 (10 years).
The renewal window opens on 2024-10-20 (6 months before expiry) and closes on 2025-04-20.
The grace period then runs from 2025-04-21 to 2025-10-20, at the higher late renewal fee.
Once renewed, the next renewal would be due by 2035-04-20, and so on.

The first renewal is due at the end of the initial 10-year term, calculated from the application date. You can file the renewal request within the 6 months before expiry, and the fee must be paid at the same time. A 6-month grace period after expiry is available at a higher fee.
Yes. Within the 6-month grace period after the expiry date, you can still renew by paying the late renewal fee. In 2026 this is TRY 15,420 for up to two classes, compared with TRY 8,730 on time.
A Turkish trademark registration lasts 10 years from the application date, and each renewal extends it for another 10 years. There is no limit to the number of times a trademark can be renewed, as long as renewal fees are paid on time.
