Trademark renewal fees in Taiwan: costs, due dates and grace period
Renewing a Taiwan trademark costs TWD 4,000 per class, paid to the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO). The right lasts 10 years from the day its registration is published, and renewal can be requested in the six months before it expires. In the six-month grace period after expiry, the fee doubles to TWD 8,000 per class.

What are the trademark renewal due dates in Taiwan?
A Taiwan trademark right runs for 10 years starting on the day its registration is published, so the term ends on the day before the tenth anniversary of publication. The renewal window covers the six months before that date.
The first renewal falls due when the initial term ends, on the day before the tenth anniversary of publication. TIPO accepts the request from six months before expiry, and not earlier.
For example, if the registration was published on 2016-03-11, the term ends on 2026-03-10 and the renewal window opens on 2025-09-10.
Each renewal adds 10 years, counted from the day after the previous term ends. There is no limit on the number of renewals.
For example, once renewed in 2026, the next term ends on 2036-03-10.
Taiwan trademarks are renewed with the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO), part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, under the Trademark Act.
Taiwan is not part of the Madrid System, so no international registration can cover it. Every Taiwan trademark is renewed directly with TIPO. An owner with no domicile or business establishment in Taiwan must appoint a local agent.
Your renewal window opens six months before expiry, here 10 Sep 2025, and the deadline is 10 Mar 2026. Miss it and the mark can still be renewed until 10 Sep 2026 at double the fee, TWD 8,000 per class. Each renewal adds another 10 years, with no limit on how many times.
Official trademark renewal fees by year in Taiwan
Official TIPO fees in TWD, set by the Fee-charging Standards of Trademark. Renewal is charged per class, with no discount for filing online.
| Fee type | Official fee (TWD) |
|---|---|
| Renewal, per class | 4,000 |
| Renewal in the grace period, per class (total) | 8,000 |
| Certification or collective membership mark (flat) | 4,000 |
| Typical 3-class renewal | 12,000 |
The grace-period fee is double the normal fee, not a surcharge on top: TWD 8,000 per class replaces TWD 4,000. A renewal can cover all or only some of the registered goods or services; anything left out lapses at expiry. A person with an interest in keeping the right alive may also request the renewal.

Missed a trademark renewal deadline in Taiwan?
For six months from the day after expiry, the mark can still be renewed by paying double the fee: TWD 8,000 per class in total. The doubled fee replaces the normal one rather than being added to it, so the extra cost is TWD 4,000 per class. If no renewal is filed in that period, the trademark right is extinguished from the day after expiry. TIPO publishes no restoration route for a mark lost this way.
If the term ends on 10 Mar 2026, the mark can still be renewed until 10 Sep 2026 at TWD 8,000 per class.

1. When is a Taiwan trademark renewal due?
When the 10-year term ends, on the day before the tenth anniversary of the publication of registration. TIPO accepts the renewal request in the six months before that date.
2. Can a Taiwan trademark be renewed after it expires?
Yes, for six months from the day after expiry, at TWD 8,000 per class instead of TWD 4,000. After that the right is extinguished from the day after expiry.
3. How long does a Taiwan trademark last?
10 years from the publication of registration, renewable for further 10-year periods with no limit.
4. Does TIPO require proof of use to renew?
No. TIPO does not examine renewals: filing the request and paying the fee completes it. A registration can still be revoked if the mark has not been used for three consecutive years.
5. Can a Taiwan renewal cover only some goods or services?
Yes. The renewal can cover all or part of the designated goods or services, and TIPO records which ones were renewed. Anything left out lapses at expiry.
